Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Simon Difford for Class Magazine

    Clear, pale golden.

Honey, golden syrup and corn oil with French baguette, green apple skin, and aoverripe tropical fruit/white peach. Pinch of cinnamon spice.

Sweet vanilla and caramel with buttery oak, white fruit and a pinch of spice - nutmeg and cinnamon.

Honeyed sweet corn oil with cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of ginger and black pepper. Sweet and easy - the training bra of whiskies.

    Diffordsguide rating - 4.5/5

Sweet, appetising and organic nose. Sweet with vanilla, dried banana chips, and coconut oil. Bourbon-y sweetness that gets the mouth wet in anticipation. Organic like fresh corn, green tomatoes, chlorophyll.

Mmm, buttery and fruity. Toasty. Caramel. Almonds with a twist of watery lemonade. Honeyed finish with a tinge of those organic notes found on the nose.

Superficial stuff first, I like the bottle design (like the Arran Anniversary shape) and the cork is fat and tight giving a nice loud sssquuueeepft when you open it. This is a light, fresh, and invigorating whisky that is perfect for a summer day. Very bourbon-y without any of the harder tannins but might be a bit sweet and cloying for some people or even for some moods. Could do well in a cocktail in place of bourbon, or even rum. Yet more evidence that great things can come from the world of grain whisk(e)y.

My first experience of this particular whiskey and I love it. I am not a person who uses pretentious descriptions. Nonetheless this is a lovely whiskey. Some late sweetness, lovely smooth flavour and just so good on a late evening with a book. Where it''s from is also not a bad place to visit and it''s near Fitzpatrick''s Pub !

A wonderfully smooth Irish whiskey that really does melt in the mouth as one other reviewer put it very well. A smoothness that by far surpasses any other whiskey or malt, somthing to saviour.

Bought a bottle in Ontario. Amazingly smooth, highly recommended. A great sip.

Grain whiskey is still something of an unknown but makes a lovely and smooth alternative.Nose: shy, damp hay, pear blossom, lightly-stewed apples, honey, vegetal.Palate: Initially smoky, slight woodiness and then smooths off at the end

Soft and smooth, this is my kinda dram (however, I do prefer the 15-year old). Ideal as an aperitif, believe me. Well worth every penny.

  • 7 November 2009

Lovely, clean, bourbon-y, zingy stuff. Unusual and worth a try.
