A very endearing, subtle malt with a strong whiff of peat, this is a curious but superb marriage of different Japanese malts – and it really delivers. Brilliant.

Nose
Subtle smoke twinned with blackcurrant and blackberry. An aromatic, fruity delight.

Palate
Smoke much more apparent on the palate, the peat melds beautifully with the honeyed fruit.

Finish
The smokiness persists, with the fruit adding a welcome softening element.

Comment
The peat is a big player here, but it never feels overdone, with the fruit adding a refreshing streak to the whisky.

My fav out of the 3 expressions, plenty of quality peated Yoichi malt in this. Very enjoyable indeed.

In my view it is the best of the Pure Malt range and one of the best expressions that Nikka has made. Nikka is actually quite impressive in terms of the quality of their entry-level, such as this or From the Barrel. Easy to sip, can take a drop or two of water, great value.
