Suntory Hibiki Harmony Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Beguiling aromas of apricots, orange blossom and marmalade, bolstered by subtle spiciness, too – cinnamon and clove. Elegant and seductive.

Palate: The generous fruit continues on to the palate, with oranges and apricots in abundance. There’s a little peppery spice, but the soft, succulent fruit takes hold. Nice balance, and nicely crafted.

Finish: The spiciness takes over from the fruit and lingers, along with a little barrel char.

Comment: Something of a baby compared with much older Hibiki bottlings, this retains the classic soft, elegant orange-blossom character and generous fruitiness, with a little spice to help things along.

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    Colour: Amber.

Nose: Rose, lychee, hint of rosemary, mature woodiness, sandalwood.

Palate: Honey-like sweetness, candied orange peel, white chocolate.

Finish: Subtle, tender long finish, with hint of Mizunara (Japanese oak).

The Hugh Jackman of whiskies. There's just no way you won't like it. For relaxing times... make it Suntory time!

Nice combination of spice and little sweet ness you feel like eating rather then drinking

A fantastic whisky. An incredible result considering how young it is. I loves how mellow and lingering the intricate flavours were. Will certainly be buying another bottle of this soon

Forget all the 1,2,3 and 4 stars. This is a 5 stars whisky. Sure, for some people, it might be too young, too sweet or too smooth but it is definitely one of the very best. I have tried so many whiskies and this is unbelievable stuff! You will agree with me once you have tried it.

I'd agree with the sentiments of the other reviews. Very orangey and not a pleasant aftertaste neat. But different drink with a splash of water. Much better with the old h2o. Not the best from Japan but worth a look

Young wet oak, very floral, decadent marmalade, spice, vanilla, sugar sweet but thin, short finish. Nice sweet & spicy taste with wood and flowers for aroma. I bit thin and the finish I'd short. Complexity seems to stop at the nose and the taste is a bit of a sweet mess. Reminds me of a brandy. My rating comes down to this. Am I excited to run to my kitchen and gave another dram of it? No. Would I buy it again? Nope.

On the nose, it was rich but controlled. Not a trace of alcohol. Big gluey oak note up front, behind it, some spicy wood, some orange, and some vanilla in the depths. The palate is somewhat thinner than expected and is highlighted by oranges, there's also a bit of a soapy note, and some toffee. The finish is the only detraction for me. Just kind of vanishes on the finish. Overall though, it beats a lot of single malts I have had in the price range ($60usd).

This is a rather pleasant blend, with just the right amount of sweetness, and rather smooth; I was rather surprised to read that it was a 43%, as I would not have guessed so otherwise. The one nitpick I have is the price: it runs the same cost as a bottle of a good single-malt, and it lacks an age statement.

"Nose" (undiluted) Buttery, floral, bergamot oranges, sherry, sandalwood/exotic oak. "Palate" (undiluted) Sweet up front, orange slices, blood oranges, raspberries, citrus, pomegranate, golden tree sap. "Finish" (undiluted) Pineapple, spiced malt notes interspersed with milk chocolate moving to drying grapefruit notes. Part my lips and exhale and some smoke emerges. "Verdict" In a blind taste test, this could easily be mistaken for a young (e.g. 8-10 yr old) single malt. There is no graininess or imbalance of flavors that is present with so many blended whiskies. No bite or offensive alcohol notes here. Hibiki Japanese Harmony is indeed harmonious. Initially quite sweet, but it does dry up a bit by the finish, but not by much. This is a sweet whisky overall. It works for me. If you like Dalwhinnie, Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or, Cragganmore 12 and Glenfiddich 15 Solera, then you will find Hibiki Harmony is in your wheelhouse.

Amazing. One of the most complex whiskies I've had. It sends my taste buds through varying flavors. Very smooth, sweet, then oaky and the finish is as if I had a wonderful single malt scotch.

A bit of a Marmite whisky as one can see from the reviews. The range of cask types includes bourbon, sherry and possibly plum liqueur, there are strong grain whisky notes (it must be remembered this is a blend) and the result is a complex, if young whisky. Lots of yellow fruit notes (melon, apricots) and honey sweetness, I have to say I like it but it is expensive (1 star off) and won't be to everyone's palate.

Over rated. It's way too young of a whisky. The nose has traces of soft fruit, mainly orange marmalade .Although there are hints of soft tree fruits pear/orange with chocolate on the palate it is taken over by a heavy alcohol taste. Finish, is short and uninteresting. It's sad when the nose is the best element of the whisky.

I love the Hibiki 12, but wow this was a disappointment. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 was the packaging. The bottle fantastic, the whisky is sadly not.

This is a horrible Whisky. I am willing to bet that it will be discontinued soon. It starts off sweet, and then it continues to get sweeter like a syrup that is a mixture of caramel, rotten orange peel and cough syrup. If it was free, I might get it and mix it with something that will kill the taste of it.

Loads of orange peel up front, light, creamy cinnamon, clean, light mid-palate, wee hot but pleasant finish. A wonderful afternoon sipper.

Amazingly smooth and easy to drink. Very complex flavor with an apricot finish.
