Product Description

The peaty entry in Kavalan’s range used to be only available to buy at the Taiwanese distillery, but recently, some single casks have been bottled exclusively for retailers around the world. As peat is not available on the Asian island, the single malt is instead aged in casks which used to hold Islay whisky. The result is a dram with Kavalan’s trademark tropical-fruit notes and a hint of perfectly integrated smoke.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes by Billy Abbott
- Nose
  Rich toffee with a softly smoke vanilla pod undertone. Roasted pineapple, peaches and freshly ground black pepper lie atop buttered brioche.
- Palate
  An oily mouthed with ashy smoke up front. Dry toasted spices – cinnamon sticks, black peppercorns and whole nutmeg – fade to reveal intense apple sauce tartness, bitter barrel char and rich dried orange peel. The dryness calms, and sweet orange and lemon appear, drizzled with salted caramel sauce.
- Finish
  Lemon zest and sorbet with woody spices to start. Softer notes of vanilla cream build, run through with lemon zest. Polished oak and citrus oil linger.
- Comment
  A very different style of peat, layering wood ash and dry smoke over Kavalan’s classic fruity character.
