Well, pah, Bushmills, it's a good price, I'll give it a go.....I thought. Not really expecting much..... Surprising dark fruits on the nose, caramels boozy sherryness, apple juice (from concentrate). Immediately very sweet on the pallette, surprisingly syrupy for 40%, but you'll see it has long legs if you swirl it in the glass. That initial sweetness is almost overpowering but it immediately gives way to green apple that pulls things towards tart and citrusy, a little of that Irish whiskey butterscotch biscuit, but laying over the whole thing, and eventually settling on the pallete for the long finish, you get that boozy oloroso sherry and a little sting of deep oak. You've got dustings of all the trademark flavours of Irish whiskey there, but with this really luscious boozy and decadent, if slightly over the top, glaze. To me it's almost leaning towards Jamaican rum flavours, which I've never had from Irish Whiskey before. It's definitely on the sweet side, but the wood eventually balances it out giving a very satisfying whiskey at a good price. My fave Irish is Green Spot, currently, if that helps centre this review.

I had already bought it 3 years ago directly at the Bushmills distillery in Northern Ireland, I knew of its exceptional taste and I wanted to savor the true tradition.
