• Blair Athol 12 Year Old / Flora & Fauna / Gift Box
Product Description

Spicy, rich and full, this whisky comes from Blair Athol distillery, on the peaty moorlands in the foothills of the Grampian mountains. Dry sherry aromas fill the nose, backed up by Muscat grapes, brimstone, dried apricots and treacle toffee. The palate bursts with dried fruit, minty herbs, Madeira wine and vanilla that fade to oak spice, dry pepper and apple crumble that linger in the finish.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • Nose

Muscat grapes and maderised wine; a hint of over- the-top Sauternes. More than a whiff of brimstone in the background, even tar. Dried apricots in the foreground, and treacle toffee. Becomes more toffeed as it is exposed to the air. With water, a dense combination of sweet and rich scents, like a basket of dried fruit, with some fresh gooseberries, apricots and oranges, topped by Russian toffees. The winey notes have fallen back.

    • Palate

In brief… Interesting and unusual sweet aftertaste. in a sentence… A rich, sweet malt best drunk with only a drop of water, when it holds its sweetness better.

    • Finish

Very curiously, a sweetness is introduced at the end, after the acidity and dryish finish has passed.

    Andrea,

Bought this in 2020 at the distillery - was just so good to be able to! Has sat in the cupboard since. Just opened it and so surprised by the sublime taste. Good sherry and fruits mix and as smooth as you like. May accompany us on a round of golf nicely.

    Anonymous,

Oh my god, what’s happened? Blair Athol used to be one of my favourite whiskies and now it’s heavily peated, tastes like iodine and has a very harsh aftertaste. This has only happened in the last three months, but my god - what a letdown. I can only assume this is a cost cutting exercise in which case please bring back the original flavour and I’ll pay a little more!

    Paul H,

Absolutely beautiful, I love this whisky… I’ve been working my way through the bottle and can honestly say it gets better and better….don’t think I’ll ever be without a bottle.
