A brilliant dark rum for mixing, produced in Bermuda since 1806. The name comes from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. Rich and well balanced this has enticing notes of butterscotch, vanilla and caramel. The signature serve is with ginger beer in a Dark 'n' Stormy.

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting note by Class Magazine

    Appearance: Clear, caramel amber.

Aroma: Pungent treacle, stewed fruit and banana cake with estery cinnamon prickle.

Taste: Dark muscovado sugar/treacle and spicy cinnamon with zesty orange and burnt fruit cake.

Aftertaste: Mouth drying burnt toast carbon finish with clove and burnt currants. Robust enough to make a great Dark & Stormy.

I normally favour the Cuban rums but this beauty from Bermuda is always in my collection. You can use it as a mixer rum, but what a waste. This requires sipping outside on a warm summers day with friends or greedily on your own. Definite caramel flavours, but not so as to spoil the enjoyment of the rum on the palate. Don't miss this one. You'll love it.

well this is a good one 1st of all ignore the guys that say its not a sipper i totally disagree its got this liquorice after taste to it but as dark rums go its the bomb!! and if you want the party cocktail that not many folks know about outside bermuda then add your favourite ginger beer (not ale) and your off to a winner enjoy !!

Normally I drink Havanna club but this is very very nice. Darker, so smooth, sweet, and moreish. Sip it neat, try not to finish the whole bottle in one sitting! My new fav drink.

This is a ruby brown rum in colour when up against the light and really quite scrumptious especially at such a moderate price. My yard stick is the Old Monk XXX (7yrs); that's my favourite. However this is very comparable and similar in molasses taste although it has a curious and pleasant musty dry after-taste.

Try it with ginger beer to make a Dark 'n' Stormy - absolutely lovely.

@Nozza: Gosling have actually trademarked the "Dark & Stormy" cocktail. So if you make it with any other rum, it can't be called a Dark & Stormy :)

Very dark with a burned molasses taste. I couldn't sip it personally as it literally numbs the tip of the tongue which is strange! It is The Rum to mix the Dark & Stormy cocktail which is utterly delicious and no other rum will quite do it. It's unique and worth having a bottle.

one of the best sipping rums first taste of bananas, then opens out to be quite complex with lingering finnish.

I found it quite smooth. Best appreciated neat.

A really nice drinkable rum. It has a great smell which reminded me of the rum truffles I was occasionally allowed to have when I was a child! I strongly reccommend this.

Very good - more red rum than black - pleasant, spicey and very drinkable - well worth a buy.

Just come back from Bermuda and drank this whilst I was there. I thought it was even better than rum swizzle that was all the 'go' when I was there 29 years ago. Really nice cold with ginger beer, called 'dark and stormy' in Bermuda. What an Island, what lovely people. Going to order this on line, could only bring 2 bottles out of the country with us.
