A cask-strength Singleton of Glen Ord, matured in freshly-charred American oak hogsheads for 18 years, before being bottled as part of Diageo's 2019 Special Releases. Delicate aromas of ripe apricots, raspberry jam, candied peel and cinnamon rolls mingle with chocolate-covered cherries, peach, sponge cake and barley sugar on the nose. The palate offers notes of apricot frangipane, baking spices, orange peel, dark chocolate, mint and oak spice.

Tasting Notes

-
Nose
Spiced fruit loaf with candied peel. The spicy baked goods theme continues with apple pies, Danish pastries and spiced sponge cake. A zing of lemon zest hides behind the sweetness, along with crunchy barley sugar and travel sweets.
-
Palate
Buttery notes are quickly washed away by citrus. Spice rebuilds from the back, exploding a ball of prickly cinnamon in the middle of the palate. Things then cam down, revealing orange peel, candied lemon and a touch of polished oak. Hints of mint chocolate sit at the back.
-
Finish
Leafy mint fades to lemon and orange zest. Oaky spice builds.

-
Nose
Very delicate, with faint notes of smashed apricots and raspberry jam on scones topped with lashings of cream. Chocolate-covered cherries join the party, accompanied by peach and cereal notes, and a hint of wet bramble hedges.
-
Palate
Notes reminiscent of Grande Champagne Cognac at first. Leather, apricot frangipane, and some mint, alongside the return of those chocolate-covered cherries. Oak spice and tart citrus balance out the sweetness.
-
Finish
Portuguese custard tarts on top of oak floorboards, with some lingering fruit and a twist of seasoning.

-
Nose
A malty progression of white chocolate, cocoa, then Ovaltine. Summer pudding – strawberries and sponge – with lashings of creamy vanilla, followed by a flash of sharp acidity.
-
Palate
Soft and summery again, though more on wood. Hay on a warm summer’s day. Some vanilla and a touch of red fruit before the wood asserts itself again.
-
Finish
Fresh; the oak remains prominent but light, with some creamy notes and a touch of sponge-cake character returning.

-
Nose
Very varied – initially there was caramel and vanilla everywhere, but quickly this changed to grassy notes with hints of green banana. There’s a hint of roasted coffee beans underneath it all.
-
Palate
Very smooth and full of caramel notes – much more than on the nose – milk chocolate sneaks in, with malt, honey and cinnamon in tow.
-
Finish
Gentle, spicy and warm. Lovely stuff.
