Actually, there are some variations with different batches. Nowadays it's impossible to get 100 % sulfur free sherry casks in large scale. Nevertheless, an excellent or even superb blend, when you get the right batch. Sadly, they probably can't keep this level of excelence for very long :(

I have to say this is a very, very agreeable blended. The regular humdrum "Special" that's on offer permanently has it's (limited) charms but always gives me a headache, so I refuse to buy it any further. This, on the other hand, has none of the vices of it's cheap cousin and is a league beyond on every level. This is a joy to drink - an unpretentious, high quality whisky for the sheer pleasure of it. Not one to linger over or over-analyse, it's simply delicious and sublimely balanced. Can give a fair degree of alcohol burn but depends how your palate is sitting at the time. Think of a whisky that the nose of the so-called "Special" should deliver be and this is it. Toffee, tea, brown sugar.....really very good indeed. For me, it sits where Chivas would purport to sit.

One of the best blends ever. Sherry sweet, but still balanced and some real complexity here. I can swear that this blend even develops when you leave it to sit 15 min. I have no idea how they can sell this superlative blend at this price and still keep out sulphured sherry casks. I have no idea.

I found this Scotch at a Whiskey Bar in Glasgow. The wait staff was very knowledgeable in knowing my tastes in alcohol as I found this was the perfect blend in the five Scotch whiskeys that were put in front of me. Wish it was sold in the states.

This is an excellent whisky ,very smooth .I've tasted whiskies three or four times more expensive(both blends and single malts)that are not on par with this blend.

Different class to the Special. Rich and smooth. Great value.

  • The Colonel 29 April 2013

The extra age has performed a miracle because this is a massive step up from the Special. Not light and grainy like Ballantine's Finest or Bailie Nicol Jarvie, not classy like Johnnie Walker Black Label. What it does have is a mouth filling richness, plenty of spice, hints of vanilla from the oak with a lengthy drying finish. Fuller bodied and more sherried than most at this price, it's a very pleasant drink indeed and good value.

Compared to the "special" which is the basic Whyte and Mackay bottle this is a step up. Silky smooth and full of flavor. The sherry influence really helps this and if you like a tea finish then this is the blend for you. Worth paying the extra over the special!

Hands-down the best value of the range!

Got a bottle of this for my birthday recently and got to say for a blended whisky it really is in a class of it's own. So much so I have now purchased another bottle just to make sure I wasn't imagining it first time around !

just bought a bottle for a party wasnt expecting much especially at this price....in my opinion this is better than whiskies 4 times the price an more it is so smooth, yet full of flavour, if you like silky smooth whiskey like Cardhu 12 year and edradour 10 year but want to pay less this is the only port of call

Mmmmm lovely whisky.. Or should I say nectar of the gods! It is like drinking liquid dates... smooth, fruity and complex. Very moorish, one of my favourite blends this. A fantastic alternative to peaty blends too.

a great whisky! Delicious!! particularly at this price. Too bad that it is not sold in the U.S.A. But it is certainly worth sending to the U.K. for this stuff.

A very good dram. Not much smoke or peat, but a huge, well balanced and well rounded fruity taste. Powerful and complex stuff, really top notch for a blend. Flavor deserves more attention than I have been able to give it in casual drinking.

The masculine layout is perfect in these times of feminine design of french perfums like bottlings!!!

If God likes a nice whisky to unwind with this is the one he would drink. It is gorgeous!
