The 'original' sets a high standard for Highland whisky, and has gone from strength to strength since its slightly controversial packaging redesign a few years ago. Medium-bodied and gently warming, with pleasant spicy notes.
Tasting Notes (2)It's Kind of
Delicious and Wonderful...

From cosy evenings beside the fire to drinks with friends, Glenmorangie helps turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. In a technicolour collaboration with celebrated photographer Miles Aldridge, Glenmorangie shows off the versatility of its whiskies and brings everyone into a memorable world where everything is kind of delicious and wonderful.
Miles Aldridge

World-renowned photographer and artist Miles Aldridge is known for his colourful, arresting photographs that reference art history, film noir and pop culture. Rising to prominence in the mid-nineties, Aldridge has worked with some of the world’s top publications, including Vogue, The New Yorker and Harper’s Bazaar. His commanding use of colour creates an ethereal feel, turning the mundane into the memorable and leaving a lasting impression of glamour, decadence and intrigue.

About Glenmorangie

Established in 1843 in the highland town of Tain, Glenmorangie is one of the best-known single malts in the world. Its Port Wood Finish, released in 1994, marked the beginning of a series of whiskies finished in a huge variety of adventurous cask types, from Cognac to Rhône wine to rye whiskey, but the heart of the range remains The Original.

Tasting Notes
-
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
-
Nose
Soft, clean and refreshing: lemon sherbert and apricots, with honeyed fruit and a touch of toffee and vanilla. Gentle and satisfying.
-
Palate
A little weightier on the palate, with honey and malt, banana bread and subtle sweet spices. Clean and well balanced.
-
Finish
The honeyed fruit fades softly, and the finish is whistle-clean.
-
Comment
A textbook whisky, this – well made, beautifully balanced, delicate but still flavoursome.

This is my favorite almost every week drinker. Except when Aberlour is my favorite every weeker. I go between the two, but this is my number one. I drink this more than anything else. It’s oak. It’s vanilla. It is scotch that brings me back to what the smell of what people were saying was good scotch back when I was a wee lad, drinking apple juice. It’s that fruit that doesn’t really exist, except in scotch. From a part of the malt that only exists in some scotches. The first time I drank this was when it first became legal in the US back in the early or mid 2000’s. It got to me at a time where going out to the bars and drinking whatever beer and getting drunk was not really the thing anymore because we were now in our mid to later 20’s. We were just getting the taste for bourbon and whiskeys. Cognacs and wines, And better alcohols not just to get drunk. This always hit me as just right, because I get the good elements of bourbon, without the taste of the sour mash. I hate sour mash. Hate it. I am drinking this right now. All I can say is it just always has me getting flavors that just work. That fruit that doesn’t really exist, which I see as something like a pink kiwi - it is there, in between the woodiness, vanilla and hints of bourbon sweetness. I get the taste of the dry, flaking outside wood on an aged bourbon barrel and it tastes good with the sweet, the vanilla, the fruit and oak. Any time I drink the 12 or 14 year expressions, it leaves me kicking myself for not getting this. Overall, if you ask me, this is the best baseline starting expression there is. There’s other “better” stuff out there for special occasions. But I’d still rather be drinking this most of the time.
