Product Description
Eagle Rare 10 Year Old is a favourite American whiskey at The Whisky Exchange, and this 12 Year Old bourbon is an excellent addition to the acclaimed range from Buffalo Trace Distillery. Bottled at a slightly higher 47.5% ABV, it delivers a fuller texture and greater depth of flavour. Expect rich notes of toasted oak, almonds, and vanilla, complemented by hints of sarsaparilla and cinnamon, creating a smooth yet complex bourbon experience.

It's brilliant, but it's also Eagle Rare. I don't think I'm capable of giving nuanced tasting notes to the level that would satisfy a proper whisky enjoyer, but I can give you my opinion based on the bourbon this bottle contains. What I can say is that in a blind taste test of all the Buffalo Trace products I own I couldn't instantly tell the ER12 apart from the ER10 in the same way I could EH Taylor. It's smoother drinking than the 10, and when done side-by-side clearly more complex and flavourful. But it's not a revelation, it doesn't jump out of the glass in a way that says "oh my god that's incredible". But I would say not meaningfully moreso to justify twice the price. My impression is that it's an exellent whisky, but I would much prefer to own two bottles of ER10 than one of ER12. We have the luxury that the Americans don't have, we have access to ER10 as one of the most affordable high-end bourbons on the market full stop, and yet also the opportunity to purchase ER12 at a reasonable price. I see no reason why you shouldn't buy this just once to try it if you're an ER10 fan, you might love it far more than I do. But my opinion is that most people will fall back to the 10, I've bought a LOT of bottles of bourbon recently but almost nothing I've tried has managed to convince me otherwise that ER10 is the only bottle of bourbon you should purchase in the UK. The Eagle Rare 12 is a great product, and I'm glad I'm coming in somewhat after the peak of the bourbon craze, because things like this are simply available to me. But in a normal world I see no reason why this should command any reverence, it's just good, great even, but not special.
Great tasting bourbon, the colour and viscosity is silky smooth with the subtle notes of vanilla and cinnamon in my opinion others may have different tastes when enjoying the bourbon
