The fifth in Bunnahabhain’s annual limited-edition series is a welcome return, allowing slightly different aspects of the distillery’s classic unpeated coastal Islay single malt to shine through than in the standard 12-year-old. This year’s release was drawn from equal proportions of first-fill oloroso and bourbon casks for a rich wood influence, but one that doesn’t obscure the essential character of Bunnahabhain. Fresh coastal notes intertwine with dried fruit, cinnamon and cloves on the nose, before the palate brings creamy vanilla, toasted coconut and touch of the maritime. Time and place in a glass.
