The Midleton Distillery Collection

The Midleton Distillery was founded in 1825 and remained at the forefront of Irish whiskey’s global success through the 1800s. To celebrate its 200th birthday, the distillery’s owner Irish Distillers Ltd is planning a year filled with events and great whiskey to honour Midleton’s legacy. The Midleton Distillery Collection brings together those whiskies into one all-encompassing range, showing off the styles and flavours of Irish whiskey.

Jameson

The biggest name in Irish whiskey, Jameson was first distilled in Dublin by John Jameson almost 250 years ago. Since then, it has become one of Ireland’s most famous exports and the driving force behind the Irish whiskey renaissance. While the most famous Jameson is the familiar blend that’s a favourite around the world, there are a whole range of Jameson whiskies to enjoy.

Redbreast

Redbreast is a brand with a storied history and a strong claim to being the flagship Irish pot still whiskey. Ireland’s signature style of whiskey – made with a combination of malted and un-malted cereals – has been released under the Redbreast banner since the early 1900s. Redbreast today is rich and fruity, with a focus on sherry cask maturation, and makes a perfect introduction to the weightier side of pot still whiskey.

Spot Whiskeys

While pot still whiskey has been a flagship for premium Irish whiskey over the decades, it almost entirely disappeared after the middle of the 20th century. Only Green Spot continued to fly the flag for pot still over the years, and the growth of the spot range to encompass a whole range of colours, and with them styles and flavours, over recent years has been a triumphant mirror of the rebirth of Irish whiskey.

Midleton Very Rare

Midleton has been the centre of Irish Distillers’ whiskey making for the past 250 years. However, there was a time when the distillery’s name was rarely mentioned. To change this, the company introduced an annual Midleton Very Rare release in 1984 and used it to showcase its very best whiskies. These include Midleton Very Rare Barry Crockett Legacy, which celebrates the work of the master distiller that helped put Midleton whiskies on the map.

Powers

While Powers was not often seen outside of Ireland until recently, John Power & Son was one of the original founding companies of Irish Distillers and its whiskies have been a part of local culture for more than century. In recent years, the Powers name has spread around the world, with a range of bottlings that celebrate the company’s history and great Irish whiskies.

Method and Madness

While Irish Distillers is focused on tradition, behind the scenes its whiskey makers have been experimenting for decades. This finally became public with the launch of Method and Madness, which showcases the whiskey making team’s inventiveness. With a focus on combining interesting casks with different styles of Irish whiskey, the range features a a wide selection of styles that explore the frontiers of flavour.

Knappogue Castle

A recent entry in the Midleton Distillery Collection, Knappogue Castle began in the 1970s as a range of whiskies matured under Knappogue Castle in County Clare and bottled by the castle’s owner. His son revived the name in the 1990s and he continues his father’s legacy with releases of well-aged Irish single malt to this day.

About Irish Distillers

After decades of leading the world whiskey market, the early years of the 20th century hit Ireland hard. Famine, The Great Depression, world war, the struggle for independence and trade wars all took their toll on the Irish whiskey industry and it slowly contracted and collapsed. In 1966, three of the largest remaining companies – John Jameson & Son, John Powers and Son and Cork Distilleries Company – joined forces and merged to form Irish Distillers, hoping to weather the storm together.

The new company did much more than survive, continuing through the lean years before leading Irish whiskey into the 21st century. With Irish whiskey once again on the up, Irish Distillers are at the heart of the industry, supporting and innovating to help create a new era of great spirit.
