A rich, dark, Irish blend, Black Bush contains a high proportion of triple-distilled single malt, aged in Oloroso sherry casks for around 8-10 years before marriage with the grain. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010.

Bushmills Black Bush Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Gavin Smith

Nose: Baked apples and spicy malt. A pleasingly mature character to it.

Palate: Big bodied, slightly oily, with nutmeg and red wine. Sophisticated and assured.

Finish: Notably long, drying with dark syrup and liquorice notes.

Comment: A confident whiskey that feels as though it has some age to it.

  • Tasting Notes by Dave Broom

Nose: Rich and ripe, with some dark (cooked) black fruit. Raisin, cocoa, praline, coconut. Substantial smooth succulence.

Palate: Sweet start then it firms up in the centre where the nuts return melting into the chocolate and raisin. Chewy and tongue coating. Showing some complexity.

    Finish: Long, sweet.

    Comment: Beautifully balanced.

What can I say, incredible. So smooth for me, just enough harshness for my taste. A lot of different nuances of taste.

Apples galore! a stellar blend. This has been relatively hard to get hold of for years, now available in my local coop for ?20?! Something tells me there are changes afoot at Bushmills....

I don't know where the stellar reviews are coming from. Bushmills' Red Bush is so much better, and cheaper as is Crown Royal.

I have really enjoyed this Whiskey, a bit sharp on the tongue and yet very satisfying. Preferred it on the rocks. Very well recommended.

well, I had Bush's original a few times over 25 years ago and had forgotten about it. last month I thought about it and bought another bottle, but then I found out black bush existed. tried it and loved it. very smooth flavor and Could actually feel the work put into it on my tongue. I'm thinking that I'm going to lay off drinking for six months until my birthday in July. I read about all the fruity nutty and sweet taste, but to me it's just plain good whiskey.

A great whiskey, I usually drink Scotch but this one rates very highly in my book. Has a clean nose with hints of vanilla, plums and a hint of peat, nice mouth feel with sherry and cereal bite on the tongue. Seems to last on the tongue for a long time, very rich and is an outstanding whiskey.

One of the best Irish whiskies to be found. I find this much more enjoyable than JW Black scotch, incredibly smooth and rich.

Excellent whisky, very smooth and rich-tasting. I have been a Scotch drinker for the past 40 years, when I tried Jameson a few times I didn't care for it and assumed Irish Whisky wasn't much. Black Bush is completely different. So good, and priced so well, that I rarely drink Scotch anymore. My new favorite.

Execellent whiskey, indeed. However, it was the first bottle I purchased the day I returned home from my first overseas service. Due to nostalgic affection I cannot render an unbiased opinion. Tasting notes are spot on especially the nutmeg and liquorice finish. I would add to that a slight hint of cinnamon oil. Conjures up memories of childhood and chewing on cinnamon oil soaked toothpicks.

Black Bush - Nice flavor, good aroma, it burns you good, going down without ice, Bushmills in general is the Best!, but Black Bush is for me, the Royals Royce of Whisky, since it has the best price quality in the market.

Very smooth, but a little too subtle at times. Could use a little more variety and contrast in what one tastes.

I started out on Original and like all good things moved me on to try Black Bush.........a fantastic smooth and so easy to drink whiskey, however it goes quick.
