This gin was essentially an accident. During WW2, the Arak distillery in Ceylon was commandeered by the British, who requested that it instead produce gin. Local botanicals (notably cinnamon) were used in production, which made the final result somewhat unusual, to say the least. It is still a juniper-facing gin, though differs considerably from something like Beefeater or Tanqueray in its complexity. After WW2, production in Sri Lanka ceased, though the recipe was brought back to London where it is distilled to this day. An unusual gin, with an unusual, colonial history. It is also smooth, complex, very different and quite excellent.
