Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose: Enticing aromas of wood smoke, barley and lemon oil. Clean and fruity, with richness in the form of vanilla custard and toffee.
Palate: Whistle-clean, this is alive with zesty citrus fruit and aromatic peat with the balancing sweetness of vanilla fudge along with notes of apple and pear and a sprinkling of black pepper.
Finish: The rich wood smoke is well balanced by the clean citrus notes.
Comment: Lip smacking and refreshing, this is a delicious Islay single malt that is not only clean and fruity, but has the classic Islay peat character. A great introduction to Islay whisky.

Complex, elaborate, strong yet elegant Islay type wisky. Definitely one of my very favourites in this sector !...
excellent whisky, would've rated it 4,5 stars if i could..
Very good. Layered. Starting with a striking smoke which is reducing as the grain spirit takes more space on the palate. It shows little oak though and is a pretty nervous dram. Slight more time in the wood would perhaps bring another star to it.
Lovely whisky - surprisingly refreshing with a beautiful, smoky nose.
Its beautiful peaty and full of citrus aroma and taste. Wery nice islay whisky. One of the best i had.
Just a little bit to much smoke and peat for me but ok with a cigar
Surprising amount of smoke and peat taste deapite light color and zesty citrus nose
A lovely dram. The smoke hits before smooth sweet flavours kick in along with a dash of spice. The finish is long and smokey and very pleasant. I hope to come back to this again
As a massive fan of Islay malts, I had never tried anything from Kilchoman before. Machir Bay was my first introduction and I have to say it stands out as a great balance of many of my personal favourite characteristics of a peated whisky. Non chill filtered and natural colouring help assert an authenticity to the brand too.
Simply a beautiful introduction to Islays wonderful malts, this is to my mind and taste one of Islays best, very clean slightly zesty but with a beautifully balanced peaty note indicative of all good islay malts. All in all a wonderful whisky.
