The second-ever Filey Bay single malt from Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery is matured in a combination ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. This whisky has a light and fruity character, with notes of citrus, vanilla ice cream, caramel, biscuits and honey.

I was given this as a gift which I wholeheartedly accepted. It does show promise after a few drams over time, but ultimately I keep coming back to the same conclusions: too expensive for what it is; a decent nose; too much alcohol on the palette ; not the greatest mouth feel; not enough character; the finish is a bit harsh. I know it's young but for that price I expect more - a lot more.
I have followed the Yorkshire spirit journey since its inception and what l have experienced is a young and exciting team who have improved and developed with every bottle they have released. For me the whole collection has to be tasted and savoured to fully understand where this is going. The guys are producing a diverse and refreshing collection of young whiskies. This particular bottle offers everything you require from a young whisky , it doesn't over impose, which is a bit of a rarity in today's whisky market, no gimmicks ,nor tricks, or marketing techniques. Good old Yorkshire folk displaying passion.
Pretty unimpressed with this. Nothing particularly exciting going in with the spirit character or the casks and it is not one of those whiskies that can get away with being so young, maybe with a bit more maturity it will become more interesting.
It's light, fresh, fruity with just enough sweetness to it. Handles the 46% ABV very well even without water so great for a relaxing summers day. I think it would work well in something like a highball also, although I haven't try that.
Such genuine, Yorkshirian loveliness. Like Joseph and his technicolour dreamcote in my mouth. Vanilla all the way!
