After a night of whiskey tasting between Tomatin 10 yo, tomintoul 10 yo& machrie moor this peaty, but mellow yo wins hands down. peaty but not over powering... Deserves a place in my drinks cabinet!
Tried this last night At At a Benriach tasting and was pleasantly surprised. Not by a "peaty Speysider" because they've been around awhile, but by the overall balance, roundness, drinkability, and the "size" Of It for a mere 40%! That said, I would love To try it at 46 or even 50%.
hii think this is absolutly fantastic, gentle but very peaty not salty like islay whisky. this is my favorite whisky
Packs a punch but not so much on the peaty side. Strong cereal flavours with a hint of marshmallow vanilla (luckycharms?) Agree with the beeswax. Unique but a bit too sharp and unbalanced for my Islay palate.
To me it is a masterpiece with a smoke of white choclate flavour !!!
Got a bottle of this after the praise it received from Mr. Murray and was quite let down by it. A rather thin, watery and one-dimensional malt, nothing much going on here except peat and leather. In a way reminds me of an Islay malt gone bad after too much oxidization.
If you like the Islay-peated malt,s than give this a try. Peat it is, but not from the sea-shore, but from a forest. Very fine malt, one negative: not too long finish.
This is a peated malt. My wife could not stand it (so it is not a girly dram). The palate is very interesting with acacia honey and a note of beeswax. Some fruity notes too. The palate really balances the peaty nose. For me it is 90/100.
A gentle hint of TCP ! My love of peated whisky frowned upon by my good friend John - however he bought this for my 45th birthday. It's truely caught my attention , I now need to go through the years !More to come me thinks !
