Wonderful, delightful -- but I love many of the Franco-Italian herb-based appertivi -- eg Punt e Mes. Distinctive and refreshing particularly in warm climates/weather. Have not been able to locate locally (my bottle was carried from France). As an aside, the French firm Herm?s offers a remarkable eau de cologne ''Eau de gentiane blanche'' -- for connoisseurs only.
hated it at first, then wished I had known about it 10 years earlier. the best.
Definitely not for everyone, but that's just another reason why I love it. My father and I could keep a bottle in the house before I left home and, unlike any other drink, not worry about the rest of the family drinking it. Simultaneously bitter and sweet, it's a rewardingly challenging flavour. Must be served over ice, and when it is nothing is more refreshing on a hot day.
it tastes a bit like grassy mud. Not really very nice at all sorry, i'm definately not a fan! Got a bottle as a gift for xmas but it's that bad I can't drink it, tried to give it away to a friend at our NYE party but they didn't like it either. It's certainly a unique flavour, but I would say it's not for everyone!
First came across this in French Living, Nottingham and was hooked! A truly elegant drink, best over ice. I buy it whenever I can and cannot recommend it highly enough. A true French classic of some pedigree which is now, I believe, part of the Pernod combine. If you look carefully you will see it advertised on the side of a ruined building in the film Saving Private Ryan.
Wonderful on the rocks as an aperitif, and nice too mixed with a little bubbly or seltzer water. Pure gentian flower taste, medium bitter taste tempered with slight sweet, smooth texture. Brings back memories of romance in Paris with my former love!
