Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Initially savoury, with a touch of bouquet garni and damp grass. Sweetness build in the glass, with green apples and banana joined by freshly-rained-on forest floors, a touch of wax and rich maltiness. Seaspray freshness and smoke floats around the edges – a hint of ozone and damp rocks.
Palate
Thick, with barley sugar balanced by tart apple sauce. Spiced sponge cake studded with dried fruit sits in the middle, with darker notes underneath: damp oak, barrel char and earthy mushrooms. Water ups the intensity and depth, bring out more sweetness and savouriness.
Finish
Peppery green leaves and crunchy apples fade to reveal menthol and polished oak.
Comment
Hints of classic Glen Scotia 'dirty smoke' are wrapped up in fruit and spice – an all-rounder from the distillery, showing many sides of its multi-faceted character.
