Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Stacks of fruit: orange and lemon zest with star fruit and nectarines. Red-wine-poached pears develop alongside a touch of incense and rose Turkish delight. Underneath all of that is a layer of dried-but-plump fruit: figs, sultanas, apricots and cherries.

    • Palate

Intense but surprisingly approachable. Dark and milk chocolate lead into dense fruit: apples and oranges, limes and mangoes, nectarines and stewed pears. Fragrant oak floats through the centre while cherry jam and raisins bring up the rear. Fruity dark chocolate sauce hides underneath, poured over dark ginger cake.

    • Finish

Bright fresh fruit and dark dried fruit notes linger: apple rings and candied lemon against raisins and dried orange peel. Dark chocolate and aromatic oak spice remain.

  • Producer's Notes

    • Nose

Delicate sherry undertones at first, closely followed by floral honey and Turkish delight, while richer notes of cacao powder, toasted almonds and black cherry weave amongst the pot still spices. The seasoned oak complements the subtle notes of fig jam, creating balance.

    • Palate

Rich with notes of orange zest and orchard fruits at first, while the spices slowly come to the fore along with earthy undertones and woodland spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. Dark chocolate and dried herbs create vivid imagery of the tannins and menthol-like nature of this complex whisky.

    • Finish

Lingering, with fruits and toasted oak being the first to fade, leaving the pot still spices to have the final say.
