Customer Rating

A single pot still incarnation of Powers whisky, named for the now-defunct old Powers distillery. This is a very classy whiskey made using a combination of bourbon and oloroso-sherry-cask-matured spirit.

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose:

Appealingly heady nose of candied orange peel and pot pourri - very fragrant and aromatic, with lightness of touch.

    • Palate:

The aromatic fruit continues on to the palate, with toasty spice. Good texture and balance.

    • Finish:

The light fruit makes way for the biscuity malt and subtle cinnamon-tinged spice.

  • Tasting Notes by Robin Laing, World Whiskies Awards 2012

    • Dusty, sweet, chocolate - opening a tin of Bourbon creams - hint of Plasticine. Beautiful sweetness up front (brown sugar, toffee, coconut macaroons, madeleines) with deeper notes following - ginger, nutmeg, Victory V spice - mouth-filling, chewy and rich.

Fantastic – puts Redbreast to shame. Those who like this should also try Michells Green Spot

Omg, beats Red Breast 12 yr by a mile, super smooth and enjoyable, worth every penny.

On a par with Redbreast as a great expression of pot still Irish whiskies - this is such great value

I was in Sweny's Pharmacy in Dublin three weeks ago talking to Joyce with the clerk/host Fionn O'Connor and found out he was a pot still whiskey researcher. He recommended this to me to buy at the duty free to take home. I'd think my wife and I are the only ones drinking this in Cape Breton, Canada tonight. We are also listen to Luka Bloom's new CD Refuge, bought in Dingle at Mazz's record store. John's Lane and Luka make for a nice evening together. Slainthe.

Having just returned from Ireland and made a point of trying as much whisky as I could, this one stood out. Very balanced and easy to drink but reminds you that you’re drinking whisky.

Really nice Irish. This is a great alternative to scotch. Taste really builds and ends with a punch of warmth. Defiantly recommend.

I may be the odd man out here, but this one seemed extremely unbalanced. Compared to Redbreast 12, Green Spot and others, this one seemed one-sided with its gigantic black pepper kick on the finish.

Bought to celebrate my 64th birthday. An enjoyable pot still single malt whiskey with quite complex flavours. One for my collection indeed and I'll look forward to further enjoyment this autumn after a day on the shoot.

I'm a single malt lover who used to do a lot of shots of Irish whiskey with beer chasers when I was younger. I was always partial to Powers Gold Label. Prior to tonight the only single pot still whiskey I had ever had was Redbreast 12. I absolutely love that. In fact I just finished a bottle last night. So I went out and bought this bottle of Powers 12 today. I agree with the above mentioned tasting notes. The only thing I can add is that in my opinion the taste of this falls somewhere between a real Irish whiskey and a sherry matured single malt scotch whisky. Good stuff. Not sure I like it more than Redbreast, but very good stuff nonetheless. Great change of pace for a single malt drinker as well. Great job with no chill-filtration and 46% abv. The only thing I can say is go out and try it for yourself.

Rich and complex, this is one of the great whiskeys of the world. A perfect example of what the single pot still style can deliver. Very much worth tracking down a bottle!
