Customer Rating
A single pot still incarnation of Powers whisky, named for the now-defunct old Powers distillery. This is a very classy whiskey made using a combination of bourbon and oloroso-sherry-cask-matured spirit.

Powers John's Lane 12 Year Old Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Appealingly heady nose of candied orange peel and pot pourri - very fragrant and aromatic, with lightness of touch.

Palate: The aromatic fruit continues on to the palate, with toasty spice. Good texture and balance.

Finish: The light fruit makes way for the biscuity malt and subtle cinnamon-tinged spice.

  • Tasting Notes by Robin Laing, World Whiskies Awards 2012

Dusty, sweet, chocolate - opening a tin of Bourbon creams - hint of Plasticine. Beautiful sweetness up front (brown sugar, toffee, coconut macaroons, madeleines) with deeper notes following - ginger, nutmeg, Victory V spice - mouth-filling, chewy and rich.

Well, massive congratulations to all involved with the nurture/creation of this whiskey. The finest whiskey I've ever tasted. Thankyou Midleton distillery.

Rich and complex, this is one of the great whiskeys of the world. A perfect example of what the single pot still style can deliver. Very much worth tracking down a bottle!

Completely disagree with the sites nose & flavor notes. John's Lane has a thick tabacco & fresh morning pastry nose, with a healthy dose of pot still spices. Taste continues with the tabacco & pastry. Hold it in the mouth a bit & chew, the pot still spices come alive biting your tongue & cheeks. Swallow & notice the apricot notes & what I can only describe as that black cherry soda I used to enjoy as a child. This is a gargantuan flavor explosion on the pallet. You'll not be disappointed with your choice here. Sla?nte

One of my favourites of last year...bought late 2012. Considered a second bottle, but tried other Irish contenders at a recent whisky show. Nothing bettered this. No. 2 will open up as the bottle empties, like the last, but at The moment all I'm getting is an impression of a fine, floral non-sherried speysider blended with some good bourbon. Which is a great start!

I have been drinking Powers whiskeys for 40 years and was introduced to 12 Year Old Pot Still only a few years ago. What a superbly delightful drink this is, even more mellow than the Gold Label (and that's saying something!), ideal for celebrating those special occasions.

quite simply the best whiskey in the world....Ever It's perfect, my only gripe is the availability in the UK is shocking!it should be sold in every shop

  • Steve Webb 30 May 2012

A brilliant whiskey. Not a Power's fan previously this superb whiskey has changed my mind. It's incredibly rich and smooth taste leaves you awaiting your next opportunity to relax with it again.

  • Gordon Reeves 18 April 2012

Jim Murray has got it right with this one... one of the best whiskies out there at the moment. Silky smooth with the perfect level of wood. Powers must be extremely proud of this... it's as good as you're ever likely to get. You will not get better value for money anywhere.

  • IB 12 April 2012

Probably the best, and at the price the best value, Irish Whiskey around at the moment.
