Product Description
Laphroaig's trademark smoky and medicinal character pairs excellently with the rich fruit and spice of sherry casks, but it's rare to find bottlings which combine the two. So, when we were offered the chance to release this Signatory Vintage bottling as a Whisky Exchange exclusive, we jumped at the chance. It's heavy and smoky but run through with Laphroaig's classic fruitiness, an incredible balance of light and dark. This was awarded 91 points by whiskyfun.com's Serge Valentin, who said it was a 'marvellous selection'.

Nose
Zim bam boom! The exact combination, peat and sherry like Jagger and Richards. We’ve seen many fails with this combination, but this one seems to be perfect. Salty and smoked chocolate, seawater, leather, smoked fish, soy sauce, a little ink… What’s not to like?.
With water
Indeed. Linseed oil, almond oil, oysters and curry sauce, ham, more seawater, iodine, bandages….
Mouth (neat)
Exactly perfect, since this tart lemon adds zing and zest to the combo. Very great.
With water
Swims like Shirley Babashoff. The tax evaders starting with ‘Goo’ are your friends. Oysters, bitter chocolate, brine, earth, porcinis (dried then moistened)….
Finish
Very long, with tons of salted and smoked chocolate. Comments: why wouldn’t the owners issue such bottlings?.
Magnificent selection. SGP:467
91 points.

Nose
Rich and earthy to start, with damp soil, mulchy leaves and Laphroaig’s classic coastal notes – rock pools and sea spray. Leather jackets and raisins sit behind that, with medicinal notes bringing up the rear – TCP and menthol – along with bacon-tinged smoke. With time in the glass, sweet fruity notes step out from behind the smoke – candied lime, apple and star fruit.
Palate
Mineral-led, with slates and damp limestone joined by spiced apples and pears at the front of the palate. The flavours grow more intense, with Fisherman’s Friends, liquorice, dark chocolate and leather spreading across the palate. Despite the dark flavours and weightiness of the dram, it is still remarkably fresh, with the darker notes balanced by sweet fruit and a touch of salty caramel.
Finish
Sweet and spicy, with chocolate raisins, burnt fruit cake and cinnamon fireballs. The finish fades though fruit cake to fresh apple and lingering peat smoke.
Comment
A densely flavoured whisky which successfully balances pungently peaty Laphroaig with sherry cask spice and sweet fruity notes. A dram that rewards a long examination – give it some time in the glass to give up its secrets and you won’t be disappointed.

Stunning! Perfect sherried lapthroaig. Sherry and spirit rarely marry so well as this.
The price is a little harsh but this baby''s just as good as the previous Signatory TWE cask 700393 with no faults. Takes water like a champ without going limp at any point. Wonderful stuff and a head above any Laphroaig OB currently being sold. Mind you this is no easy going light malt so fans of Glenkinchie may find their hairdo changing to the Einstein at first sip.
