Nikka Pure Malt Black Reviews
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose: Earthy and chocolately, with herbaceous notes and peatsmoke, as well as sweet fruit.
Palate: A winning combo of dark chocolate and dark berry fruit, along with toffee and vanilla notes, bolstered by some well-defined peat.
Finish: Rich and strong, the smoke and spice lasting longest.
Comment: Of Nikka’s three Pure Malt series, this is the ideal midpoint. The Red is all about the fruit; the White all about the peat; the Black is, perhaps, the best of both worlds.
Distributor's Tasting NotesFresh, clean, initially not too smoky, then richer notes of peat and vanilla on the nose. Sweet, touches of toffee on the palate, quite chewy with a touch of coffee and light oak.

I was suspicious of Japanese whiskey but the Nikka does not disappoint. It is easy to drink but with enough character to keep you interested. Smoky, clean, just complex enough with a bit of peat.
I don't get the hype with Nikka. This tasted young and thin. Between this and From The Barrel, I smell/taste nothing to sway me away from scotch.
Tried this and loved the smooth nose and taste. One for the collection!
You can smell the subtle smoke and chocolate. So smooth and you can appreciate its complexity.
For me, it's perfect ! It's a great pleasure to have it with nothing else to appreciate his fantastic flavour. Subtle balance between fruits and smoke...What else ?
This is superb. Rich, intense, slightly oily, moderately sweet, some pine resin. Sherry and peat are in perfect balance. Reminds me JW Green Label.
A superb whisky with just the right amount of smoke, peat and sweetness. It compares with any whisky from any country. Clean, delicate and delicious. That said however it is not great vale at ?31 for 50cl!
