Nose
Earthy and chocolately, with herbaceous notes and peatsmoke, as well as sweet fruit.

A winning combo of dark chocolate and dark berry fruit, along with toffee and vanilla notes, bolstered by some well-defined peat.

Rich and strong, the smoke and spice lasting longest.

Of Nikka’s three Pure Malt series, this is the ideal midpoint. The Red is all about the fruit; the White all about the peat; the Black is, perhaps, the best of both worlds.

Fresh, clean, initially not too smoky, then richer notes of peat and vanilla on the nose. Sweet, touches of toffee on the palate, quite chewy with a touch of coffee and light oak.

Nose of vanilla, caramel and peach. The taste is cherry, peach with a hint of raspberry. A good palce to start with Japanese whisky

It’s good, not as good as From The Barrel but still smooth and I didn’t taste much if any peat smoke at all.

A very good Japanese malt, very easy to drink with 2 cubes of ice. The finish is great!

I was suspicious of Japanese whiskey but the Nikka does not disappoint. It is easy to drink but with enough character to keep you interested. Smoky, clean, just complex enough with a bit of peat.
