Tasting Notes by the Whisky Exchange
Nose: Beeswax and honey, with milky coffee, buttered brioche, apples, pears and orange zest.
Palate: Sweet and rich with a thick mouthfeel. Soft spice and orchard fruit balance sweet caramel.
Finish: Apples and pears with dark chocolate and a touch of spice.
Nose: Beeswax, honey, café au lait and buttered brioche - a French breakfast? Apples, pear drops, floral honeysuckle and a touch of orange on the side (the 5-a-day element perhaps).
Palate: Sweet and rich with an oily mouthfeel. A good balance of polished oak and orchard fruit, along with some brulée sugar and gooey caramel.
Finish: Apple, grainy pear, wood polish, some dark chocolate and a not unpleasant hint of cardboard.
Comments: Sweet but balanced by both fruit and wood.
Nose: Rich with a brown sugar / toffee apple character. Also hints of milky coffee.
Palate: Rich, with characteristic nuts and cooked fruit. As with the nose, the rum finish has lent greater weight and a noticeable sweetness. The oak is prominent without dominating the lively spirit. Dessert flavours – chocolate sponge cake, toffee pudding, crème brulée, even a hint of pannacotta.
Finish: Medium length, doesn’t outstay its welcome.
Comments: Another well-crafted, moreish dram. Not as overtly rummy as one might expect.

One of the best I've tried in this price range. However, still yet to have weight as a statement as I have tried only a few at this level. Brilliant palate! Smoothest one I've had yet, the complexity is just one of a kind! The fact that I am not a huge fan of rum simply backs it up entirely! Soaked up everything I like in a rum, including sweetness, while retaining all the qualities we love In a single malt! Spotless.
Like the old age statement, amazing box and colour, great bottle weight, nice and sweet, more like cognac type than a harsh whisky. The finish is not the longest but a great whisky as my other whisky is royal salute 21 years so this is great as a single malt so buy and enjoy it !
This is a beautifully balanced whisky, nicely aged to smoothness, the rum character does not dominated but presents a fine alternative to the ex-bourbon aged whiskies. I like it as much, if not more, than I do the Balvenie 21 which is port wood finished.
Lovely simply simply lovely. Well done indeed Mr Kinsman.
Oh my gosh.... I have one happy partner! Best gift he ever got from me :)
Nicely done rum is present but not overly so good finish, light and tasty
Sadly disappointing for such a highly rated product. Would not buy it again
Wonderful experience, surprisingly very little peat or smoke, gratutious overtones of butter and vanilla, silky, and just a light pepper finish. my new favorite Scotch.
First tried Glenfiddich 21 year olds iow so by its total pace cinnamon butterscotch I have proclaimed it my all imeymey is no other better made in the world
My favourite and remains so after many years and much research :)
the nose is awesome. it was a little bland for my taste....maybe its because im a little sick....but atleast it was incredibly smooth. definitely a 4 out of 5 for me.
A great dram, very smooth and long- lasting finish.Very different from the 18yo as this whisky is more sweet on the palate - chocolate, cherry, hony, vanila and quite spicey.Fantastic whisky!
This was the first of six whiskys we tasted in an event hosted by brand ambassador Ray Pearson. Ray intentionally served the best first. One of the great single malts.
In my opinion one of the best whiskys I tasted at Whiskeyfest NYC 2009. A very rich tasting single malt. Had to pick up a few bottles ASAP. This one will not disappoint!
I found this whisky to be very smooth with just the right balance of flavours between the rum
