SMWS 99.13 / 1980 / 31 Year Old
Product Description

The 13th cask that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottled from Glenugie. The distillery closed in 1983 and in fact no official bottlings were ever released, making it very rare and much sought after. The title of this one is "Exotic scenes in a Bedouin tent" and just 98 bottles came out of the ex-bourbon hogshead after 31 years of maturation.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Notes

    • The intriguing nose offered so much – we found beeswax, honey, brown sugar, leather, polish, tobacco and tequila – but couldn’t resist the powerful image of platters of exotic fruits served by belly-dancers in a Bedouin prince’s tent! The unreduced palate was multi-dimensional, exotic and charming, with juicy, perfumed pineapple, salt, ash, honey and tobacco. The reduced nose was even fruitier – pineapple, banana, peach and sherbet straws with a Tuscan farmyard in July providing later depth. The reduced palate (needing only a drop!) still had tropical papaya and mango but a drier, woodier mouth-feel. This Peterhead distillery has sadly now completely disappeared.Drinking tip: Whenever you deserve to be pampered.
