Ledaig 1997 / Sherry Cask #465 / TWE Exclusive / G&M
Product Description

Big, bold bottling of whisky from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull - Ledaig, their peated offering. This one was selected by TWE and bottled by Gordon & Macphail, and shows off what Ledaig does best: big, peaty whisky. Maturation in a sherry cask has added a layer of sherried fruit to the earthy, rich spirit without overpowering it.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy A

    • Nose

Classic big Ledaig: sweet peat smoke, mulchy seaweed and ozone - coastal to the max. Leather and spice, waxed jackets, sweet liquorice, spiced biscuits and sweet raisins.

    • Palate

Intense with sweetness and spice - ferns, sharp apples, liquorice, menthol and mint. Bertie Basset and blue bobble Liquorice Allsorts, rich earth and some iodine. Chocolate cake and kirsch soaked cherries. Wood smoke and brine ever present.

    • Finish

Tingly, with sweet mint chocolate, sticky raisins and lingering medicinal peat with soft apples, mint fondant and sugar mice.

    • Comment

Really fresh despite its age and the cask it's been in. Spicy and savoury at the base with beautiful sweetness dancing over the top.

  • Tasting Notes by Oliver C

    • Nose

Phenolic and medicinal smoke, classic well cooked kippers with liquorice sweetness and background red fruit notes.

    • Palate

Firstly sweet with a peppered spice and burnt wood smoke coming through. Flaked sea salt on thick peat reek and just a hint of red current jam. Becomes mouth-tingling with time on the palate.

    • Finish

Black pepper and chilli spice linger with some light citrus notes and bitter chocolate.

  • Producer's Note

    • Cured meat aromas. Apple, lemon and menthol notes.

The palate has black pepper with banana and raspberry. The finish is long with cigar ash edge.
