Carsebridge 48 Year Old
70cl / 43.2%
Special Releases 2018
- Single Grain Scotch Whisky
- Distillery Bottling
The oldest bottling in the 2018 edition of Diageo's Special Releases and the sole grain whisky entry: a 48 year old from closed Carsebridge distillery – it closed back in 1983. This is a classic old grain whisky, matured in refill American-oak hogsheads to ensure that the spirit wasn't overwhelmed by wood influence.
Carsebridge 48 Year Old Reviews
Tasting note by Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Portuguese custard tarts, crystallised honey, blackcurrants and model glue. Thick vanilla and toffee spread across a freshly varnished table.
Sugar syrup and fudge, lime and vanilla cream. Full-strength Ribena follows, along with developing notes of damp leaves and forest floors.
Blackcurrants hang around, slowly facing to reveal caramel, brown sugar and a touch of varnish.
A fine balance of the elegant dustiness and rancio typical of old grain against rich fruit and more youthful brown sugar and toffee notes.

A very smooth whisky with a slight hint of vanilla.
