This robust, smoky Ledaig is the oldest of the three single malts we selected for The Seasons: Autumn. Casks of heavily peated whisky from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull have a strong reputation, but we found this one to be particularly evocative. Autumnal notes of pumpkin pie, sweet smoke and candied ginger come first, followed by vanilla, dried pineapple and toffee apples. Finding this whisky among the dozens of potential choices for The Seasons: Autumn was a genuine pleasure and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Distilled at Ledaig distlilery

While Tobermory single malt typically shows a delicate coastal character, for part of the year this centuries-old distillery produces heavily peated spirit under the name Ledaig. This characterful whisky was once a rare sight on our shelves, but it has lately developed a cult following among those of us who like a little smoke in our dram.

To perfectly capture the sense of long, chilly evenings and leaves turning golden, we’ve paired this big, smoky Ledaig with a fruity Dailuaine and a vibrant young Caol Ila. These three whiskies form part of The Seasons, a series of limited-edition bottlings created to embody the flavours of summer, autumn, winter and spring. Each will be limited in number to the outturn of a single cask, presented without chill filtration or added colouring, to preserve the character of the whisky.
