Customer Reviews
Adam S. Montefiore, Wine Development Director at Carmel Winery has stated that the wine in the casks were Eizorit / Appellation from their Zichron Ya’aKov Cellars and was NON-MEVUSHAL. In other words, when these casks arrived at the distillery and were opened up by the workers there, they took on the kashrus status of any other Sherry/Wine cask and any wine residue left in the cask would presumably have the status of yayin stam.
This is just a whisky that has been finished in casks that have contained kosher wine, rather than a kosher whisky.
Bruichladdich does not have kosher certification from any kosher organisation. They do claim to have bought casks from Carmel winery, however there is no proof nor is it likely they are aware of all the issues in handling it & producing it correctly according to Jewish Law. Likely to be kosher it is not! Better to stick to whisky that is bona fide kosher. Our Rabbi told us not to touch it.
Although this whisky is absolutely Yummy, please note that according to R' Osher Westheim it has the same halachic issues as any wine finished whisky!
